LAS CRUCES – What number of occasions have we heard folks say our youngsters can’t thrive in Southern New Mexico?
How usually will we hear tales about our youngsters leaving Doña Ana County after graduating highschool or faculty to allow them to discover alternatives elsewhere?
What does it take to create an training system from early childhood all the way in which to profession readiness, that creates alternatives for all of our youngsters to thrive, proper right here within the borderland?
These are the sorts of questions that drive the work of the SUCCESS Partnership, a prenatal-to-career training initiative for Doña Ana County. The partnership was created in 2014 when a broad group of neighborhood leaders got here collectively across the want for our neighborhood to deal with how we collectively help youngsters’s success and alternatives. These early conferences and discussions grew into a big group of neighborhood members, together with mother and father, educators, college students, nonprofits, the enterprise sector, faith-based communities and extra, who determined that the perfect plan of action was to deal with how we are able to help our youngsters throughout the training spectrum from early childhood to Ok-12 success, post-secondary entry and success, and profession readiness.

As the SUCCESS Partnership heads into its sixth year, we are excited to step back to look at what has been done — and where we are going — as a community that is committed to transforming education outcomes in Doña Ana County. We are proud to celebrate some key milestones, including:
- The community schools initiative was born in the SUCCESS Partnership, with Lynn Middle School being the first site. Since it launched in 2017, Las Cruces Public Schools took the helm of the project, expanded the community schools effort, and expanding community schools in the district.
- The Creation of the Doña Ana County Early Childhood Education Coalition, one of the largest and most active ECE coalitions in New Mexico. This coalition’s priorities include:
– increasing access to ECE services such as home visiting, child care and pre-K,
– aligning the work of the many early childhood providers in the county to increase families’ ability to access needed services,
– development of a children’s museum, and
– supporting the early childhood workforce so that our community has enough providers, who are paid as professionals and offered quality professional development opportunities locally. - The alignment of efforts with other local coalitions, including the Workforce Talent Collaborative, spearheaded by The Bridge of Southern New Mexico, the Resilience Leaders Initiative, led by City Councilor Kasandra Gandara to prevent Adverse Childhood Experiences, and the local behavioral health collaborative, which is now coordinated by Families & Youth, Inc.
These are just some examples of what has been made possible when a community comes together around shared challenges. While we have regular gatherings within the SUCCESS Partnership, it is now time to come together as a whole community and plan for the next steps in the partnership.
On Monday, March 2, we invite you to join us and be part of these collaborative efforts to transform how we do education in Doña Ana County. We need people in our community from all walks of life as we reflect on the work that has been done and plan for the future.
We will be joined at the summit by Frank López, previous executive director of Ngage New Mexico and current director of New Mexico programs for the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, who was instrumental in initiating the community conversations, which ultimately led to the creation of the SUCCESS Partnership.
Lt. Governor Howie Morales and Centennial High School graduate Andre Gonzales will end out the day as the closing speakers.
Throughout the day, we will work off current data regarding the state of education in Doña Ana County to provide context for identifying where we see education in the county in five years.
We will work together to identify collaborative opportunities. We will look at the challenges and opportunities available in our local community, and identify strategies to continue building the partnership across the prenatal-to-career spectrum.
