From State Superintendent Salmon: Particular Message to the Schooling Neighborhood
Expensive Maryland Schooling Neighborhood,
The final two weeks have laid naked the truth that there’s an pressing want for change in our nation. The ache, grief, and anger felt in our communities in Maryland and throughout the nation are plain. As an educator, I do know that our youngsters need to see how adults react and reply to that actuality. We should start by being accountable as leaders of our youngest and infrequently most weak members. Due to this fact, I wish to add my voice to the belief that we now have an ethical crucial as educators to sentence racism and insurance policies that perpetuate it.
We have now seen the unimaginable promise and management from our college students and younger individuals all through Maryland in current days, main giant and peaceable protests in several areas of the State. It makes me very proud as State Superintendent to see Maryland’s subsequent technology of leaders information our communities by means of such tough and obligatory conversations with dignity, grace, and knowledge.
As Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. stated, “The time is at all times proper to do what is correct.” That point is now! We have now a name to motion to work collectively to sort out the inequities and systemic racial obstacles that persist for our Black college students and different college students of shade. We should, as educators, reply these calls.
