Thailand’s new Minister of Education, Treinuch Thienthong, was sworn in on March 29 and presented the concept of “TRUST” education at the first cabinet meeting, according to the Ministry of Education.Among them, T stands for Transparency, R for Responsibility, U for Unity, S for Student and T for Technology. This concept will be used to guide the development and implementation of various education policies.
At the meeting, Tiantong said that it would continue to carry forward and develop the educational development and quality assurance of schools, communities and pre-school children initiated by the former Minister of Education. She pointed out that the Ministry of Education needs to make sure that its educational institutions take measures to ensure their daily operation and student support in accordance with the Ministry of Education’s guidelines, so that schools can be a second “home” for students and parents.
Tiantong also mentioned that due to the COVID-19 epidemic, digital education and online learning will be the inevitable trend in the future. In this context, the Ministry of Education of Thailand will develop appropriate digital education online learning platforms for different learners, so that students can master essential personal skills such as critical thinking and foreign languages, and promote more equality in Thai education. In addition, in the area of vocational education, the Ministry of Education will focus on the establishment of the Thai Center of Excellence in Vocational Education to promote and build students’ awareness and understanding of society, meet the needs of the labor market in different backgrounds, and provide the Thai people with opportunities to obtain quality lifelong education. It is reported that since the end of 2020, Thai people’s trust in the Ministry of Education has been gradually reduced due to differences in concepts such as “quality education”.The reshuffle of the education ministry is also the Thai government’s response to public demands for “access to quality education”.
